Zerrium SMP

Yes. I kid you not, Zerrium needs your help. As we know, our server hardware is very old and can't handle any future Minecraft versions anymore.

Yep, that means 1.17 is the last version our server can handle. So, to understand what happened I will elaborate but please read this entire page carefully. This might take 10 minutes to read all, so make sure to spare your time.

Zerrium has been concerning about the new Cave and Cliff update right after Minecon Live 2020.
Now, in 2021 Mojang announced to divide the update into 2 parts. 1.17 for new blocks and new mobs (except Warden) and 1.18 for world generation update.

So what? Yup, 1.18 update is the problem, because world generation change affects server performance significantly that it is unavoidable.

We know that Minecraft world vertically starts from Y=0 to build height limit: 255.
On >1.18, the world height starts from -64 to 319. That means we have 128 more blocks or 50% more blocks to generate and load, therefore affects server performance.

FYI, world generation process is CPU intensive especially if you travel by elytra.

So, how bad could it be? Using our server right now which is using i3 first gen overclocked (CPU from 2010), the lag is unavoidable to an unplayable level.

What about the other server machine that Zerrium's friend lends him? FYI that is an old laptop using i7 4th gen (CPU from 2013), the lag is also unavoidable to a somewhat unplayable level especially during peak loads, therefore it doesn't meet Zerrium's QoS (Quality of Service). Also we can't use laptops to host server because it hurts its lifespan.

Here, I try to explain as short and simple as possible.

Zerrium's server machine can't handle >1.18 server because simply it has insufficient processing power.

Zerrium can't use laptop to host server. It is just a temporary workaround, bad for long term.

Streaamz' machine is powerful indeed, Core i9 10900. But he can't host using his internet. Too slow and insufficient bandwidth. Also he uses that for his college and work.

LBR23 can't host. He is in Australia and too far from here, thus affects latency (ping) when playing.

Cloud server? We have to pay monthly and it's not cheap. Also the latency won't be under 20ms like usual.

Okay here comes the bad news. Unfortunately, there is no workarounds. The only solution is to buy a new hardware server.

WAIT! ARE YOU SURE ZERRIUM???
I know this is not a right time as we have pandemic and economy crisis.

Believe me, Zerrium has tried every solutions including pushing the server hardware even further. FYI the server is overclocked from 3.06GHz to 4.3GHz. It is already extreme and needs enermous cooler tower. If Zerrium overclocked it even more, the system won't be stable and vulnerable to crash and freeze.

What about optimization? I mean sure! But the server is already heavily optimized and no more room for improvement. The OS is Ubuntu Server, which is the best OS to host server and very optimized. Zerrium is also using PaperMC which is also the best optimized hosting tool. Zerrium has set up and config everything to minimize lag.

Simply, the >1.18 lag problem is unavoidable using the current server hardware. Only new server hardware can solve it. Dot.

This section is important. I know this will be long but please READ CAREFULLY.

First of all, Zerrium needs your help because he can't afford the new server hardware alone. Zerrium needs you. We have to chip in together to afford it.
How much? Zerrium will list all the details bellow

PC parts we need to buy:

CPU: Core i3 10105F
Zerrium chose this particular CPU because it has the best price to performance, valuable and worth to buy. Compared to current hardware server, it has 2x single core performance and 4x multi core performance. Plenty for at least 5 years or even more with overclocking!

Motherboard: Asrock H410M-HDV/M.2
The cheapest reputable and compatible motherboard with the CPU, also has M.2 slot for the SSD which Zerrium donated later on.

RAM: Kingston DDR4 2666 1x8GB
Well, we don't have any RAMs donation so need to buy it and this is the most valuable one. Why 8GB? 4GB will be insufficient for that extra 50% blocks of world generation and load.

Power Supply: Corsair CV450 80+ Bronze
I know this power supply ain't really cheap. Zerrium chose this one because it is the cheapest reputable PSU with 80+ Bronze certification. We need decent power supply because we invest this to last long, at least 10 years and we don't want to buy something cheaper and only lasts 3 years. Also keep in mind, this power supply is used to power a server, not a regular casual desktop so we can't compromise a cheaper one.

What about GPU? Streaamz donated his R7 240 because the CPU doesn't come with iGPU.


Now comes the pricing. How much do they cost?

Edit: CPU price decrease from the seller (7 August 2021). The seller charged Zerrium an extra 10.8k for extra bubble wraps but welp, we have no choice. Still the cheapest CPU available on Tokopedia even if with that extra 10.8k

Note: because we still have PPKM, all the PC parts will be bought online and needs to pay the shipping cost too.
The total weight is 4 kg and the price is 9000 IDR/kg. So the shipping fee is 36k IDR. Edit: need to pay shipping insurance too which can't be opted out in Tokopedia (13.6k).

Grand total price is: 3603k IDR.
Edit 7 August 2021: The total price is now 3524k. The extra 79k money will be discussed later, possibly will be used for giveaway as the CPU didn't have 5% cashback coupon.

Edit 11 November 2021: The total price is now 3489k. The extra 114k money will be used for giveaway because the fund to buy the giveaway prize from Tokopedia cashback is insufficient (only 74.5k).

There are 10 people to chip in, inluding Zerrium. So, each of us need to pay 360.3k IDR.
After you pay, your name will be listed to wall of donator on this website.

I know not everyone can pay that much directly. So, Zerrium provides installment for up to 6 months.
For now, Zerrium will prepay all of the PC parts and every purchases Zerrium will send the invoice and product link to Discord server.
If there is price change, we will divide the price change by 10 and each of us have to pay it.
If you are banned previously, upon payment completion, Zerrium will lift your ban, but you have to start over as Zerrium has deleted all of your data in the server.

For those who have paid completely before 1 November 2021, will have a chance to win a doorprize (by raffling, including Zerrium himself)
1. If the winner doesn't have original copy of Minecraft, Zerrium will give away one legit copy of original Minecraft account to support Mojang's hardwork.
2. If the winner already has it, Zerrium will give away an OptiFine cape instead to support OptiFine's hardwork.
